This post runs through the top 3 cryptocurrency mining motherboards in June 2018 for mining Ethereum, Monero, ZCash and other altcoins. When it comes to mining cryptocurrencies, there are a number of things a motherboard should be able to support to make it ideal for cryptocurrency mining.
Ideal GPU Mining Motherboards Spec
- It should be abundant with PCIe slots, to be able to attach as many GPU risers as possible and in turn GPUs.
- It should have a CPU socket that supports low end processors such as LGA1150 and LGA1151 as they are not necessary for GPU mining.
- If it supports DDR3 its great! DDR3 is much cheaper than DDR4 RAM however most motherboards with this many PCIe slots require DDR4 RAM.
The GIGABYTE GA-H110-D3A motherboard is our favourite when it comes to a small scale 6 GPU mining rig. It comes in at a great price and has and LGA1151 CPU socket so you should be able to pick up a cheap Intel Pentium processor for your rig.
The GIGABYTE GA-H110-D3A is the perfect motherboard for beginner miners and for those with a tight budget. One slight drawback is that is requires DDR4 RAM which is a little more pricey than DDR3 however you should only need a 4GB stick to get you started so you can pick these up quite easily.

The ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ Motherboard is has an amazing 13 PCIe slots, making the basis for a perfect medium sized mining rig. We personally have one of these running RX 580 & RX 570 graphics cards. You could pick up the H110 Pro BTC+ for around £120 on Amazon. When it comes to powering 13 GPUs you are going to likely need multiple power supplies. We recommend for this rig having at least two gold rated PSUs to power this many graphics cards.
We haven’t experienced any issues with this board. ASRock nailed it when it comes to this board as it has an ideal amount of PCIe slots to be supported by two power supplies.

The Asus B250 Mining Expert has a whopping 19 PCI express slots, capable of housing up to 19 graphics cards. In order to support this size a motherboard, with this many graphics cards you’ll need to have multiple PSUs big enough to power that many graphics cards. You will probably be looking at two 1400W or 1600W PSUs. Size really matters when it comes to crypto mining, the biggest graphics cards, the biggest power supplies and introducing the biggest mining motherboard on the market. The ASUS B250 Mining Expert is the king of crypto mining.
You could run 19 RX 570 graphics cards with two large 1400W PSUs. One of the extreme benefits of this motherboard is it can save you some money on basic hardware for example, if you where to build multiple mining rigs using smaller motherboards with less PCIe slots then it could set you back more on initial costs. Take this scenario, you want to built a 19 GPU mining rig, to do that you could buy both an ASRock H110 and a GA-H110-D3A, however this would cost you an additional £20. You would also double up on spending on RAM, Power Supplies, SSD, CPU as well adding an additional £150-250 to the total cost. If you plan on going big, start with this miner! You Don’t always have to buy all the cards up front, you can buy more as they become more available.
